Hi everyone! How are you?
I am soaking up the last bits of summer (the sun is setting before 8PM)…boo, and trying to keep my head on straight with this news cycle we Are Forever In.
I’m back to my OG analog hobby: painting. Mamie pictured here with my latest piece.
This week’s picks include MySpace’s comeback, the Disney & TikTok deal and limerence in the digital age.

Does hating influencers mean hating women? That’s what Levi Coralynn is insinuating this week, at least—and to an extent, I agree with her. But like kate lindsay points out, two truths can coexist here: “influencer” does have a sexist connotation, and influencer culture is largely problematic. As creator @tedkaczynskisgreatfriend put it, the real reason people hate influencers is the overconsumption they promote. The internet runs on rage (I shared this Vulture piece on it a couple weeks back) and jealousy—and it’s these inaccessible lifestyles (the kind that make people hate themselves) that are actually driving the backlash. Every six months there’s an article that’s like, “damn, working at Vice was crazy.” Oh, the millennial dream of working for a blog, living in Brooklyn, going out to happy hour, and taking a $7 Uber home.
Everyone is beautiful; no one is horny, and the ensuing discourse has produced this.
Taking notes…
MySpace is coming back, I guess.
Another thing where I’m looking closely at the comments.
This is one of those things where I truly believe the equal and opposite is also true. Like most things these days.
